Kate is an experienced gardening coach based in Brisbane whose mission is to empower gardeners to create their own dream gardens; gardens which are beautiful, sustainable and personal. Kate understands the joy and fulfillment that comes from nurturing a beautiful garden and wants to enable others to experience the rewards of successful gardening for themselves.
Kate’s career changed from environmental science to professional gardening after the 2011 floods in which her own local community was severely affected. Her volunteer efforts to restore flooded gardens saw her earn several awards including a prestigious “Ray Phippard Fellowship” from the Lions International.
Kate is the author of three popular gardening books:
Working With Weeds; a practical guide to understanding, using and managing weeds,
Earth Repair Gardening; The lazy gardener’s guide to saving the Earth, and
Gardening After A Flood.
Kate’s work has seen her receive peer recognition and industry awards, including:
2021 Award of Merit from the Australian Institute of Horticulture for Working With Weeds.
2022 Anita Boucher Award from the Horticulture Media Association Australia for her work helping gardeners recover from flooding.
Kate runs regular gardening workshops in community gardens, local libraries and in her own garden on a diverse range of topics including edible weeds, sustainable gardening, subtropical cottage gardening, resilient gardening, gardening with dogs and gardening on a budget.
Kate is a regular speaker at various garden clubs and garden events.
Kate appeared in a 2017 episode of Gardening Australia in which she showcased her stunning garden at her Brisbane home, which is also showcased here or on The Planthunter.
Kate has an international following through her writings on www.GardenDrum.com/author/katewall/ and her own garden has featured on television and numerous gardening magazines.
